Steep hills

In SE Ohio we have a few flat spots. Most numerous is hills.

My U302 loses oil pressure on steep hills and so did a Vista and my Dads Super Jet.

I am guessing oil p/u is in front of engine.

Wondering how steep I should try going up? Think it will spin out before raring up? That is way they treat dozers, they will spin out first.

I have a front end loader. MM didn't figure on hillside farms.

I don't care if it is safer, I am not backing up a hill. Maybe I will work my nerve up but it don't feel natural.

I always keep my loader about 2ft off ground. Dont want to be too low as you can unexpected hit a hole then ram it into trail and that can cause accident also. But yes I keep it low low.

Thanks for all the information.

Oil sump on back of motor. Look at pan. Lower portion sump. Pump on front of U302.Jet series. All bigger blocks U/G m5 6 bangers
pump in middle with sump below. No hills here in MB.

Yes sump may be in rear but is pickup in front of that deep pan area?

Also, today I just took my U302 up and down a hill that Vista and super jet loses oil pressure on coming up.

302 held 55lb all the way!

I became disabled a couple years back. I have decided I am not really able to ride this tractor. You do not realize how rough they ride until you become ill.

On the road today, flat roadbed it just hops up and down as you drive about 3 MPH. It is too hard on me.

I have contractors building a home and this is for that to move material around and lift to home site (it has a front end loader).

Mainly I got this for contractor to use (Amish, they dont have their own). I sure miss driving tractors for fun. It is a good basic PT for me to do this, climbing on and steering can be a good work out.

They are a good way to get around on your property though. An ATV would be a smoother ride however.

Also I have a collection of VISTA books (service manual, parts manual etc). Does people need these often?

I traveled to MN in 2000 on business and spent a day at historical society going thru MM stuff. Made a lot of brocure copies from originals on G1000. It was expensive, they charged a lot per page there. Had no choice. You go in a room with no coat, briefcase etc. Just pen and paper. They bring you MM boxes as you order them. Copies they make and you pay. It was a lot of fun.
