U questions

The old guy that we bought the R
from called this evening and said
he would knock a thousand off the
U he has. It's now $1500. We got
the R for $800 and had to buy a
battery for it but after some
tinkering it fired up and runs
great. So the U is in the same
shape. Hasn't been run in 4-5
years but the R hadn't either. What do y'all think ? Fair price? Worth the gamble? Oh the Oliver 77 that my buddy bought from him spins over and just needs a tweek to get it running. I now own the Oliver because Dave is moving to Idaho. He didn't have time to tinker with it. We hope to have it running in the next few days. It was $600.

Couple pictures. He is proud of the Z. Asking $3000.

Price seems steep to me unless you just have the cash laying around burning a hole in your pocket, seriously, it?s a nice looking old tractor but for that kind of cabbage you could buy a good running tractor that you could actually use in your business when needed. Not running then I?d say no more than $500.....
Lol, sell me the Oliver and you?ll have some money to put towards the purchase of it, I?ll give you some profit on the Ollie......

Maybe double too much for a non runner. Too many unknowns underneath the purty paint. Tires and rims will have a lot to do with the value. Does the engine turn over?

price is in the ballpark for the u. those narrow 12 volt batteries sure jumped in price. i payed 165.00 last winter, now they are around 250.00 pretty straight looking tractor. appears to have been painted. mine still has original good paint and was shedded.

I agree with the others that it is a 500 dollar tractor the way it sits. If he wants more then he needs to spend the time and money to get it going. If it ran I would feel better at 1000-1200 dollars and that might be too much.

Funny thing is Dave wants to buy it , leave it with us when he moves to Idaho. We would get it running, sell it,and split the profit. We may go look at it Tuesday. We have seen it but didn't look it over because we already bought 2 from the guy. It is s non runner, but so was the R.....and the Oliver. But the U cost what those 2 together was......

If it's stuck then no more than 500. If it turns over but doesn't run I might go a couple hundred more- it does look good.

ooh wow,... u guys must not like U's if its only a 500.00 tractor. didnt think prices were that much in the toilet.

My input: 1500 is closer to a running, driving unit. Half that or just over for a non stuck unit. Many of these old tractors were parked simply because they were old. Others because they had an issue. Won't know which until it is running.

More information........the seller is elderly and not well. Last time we were there he drove his truck down close to the barn but couldn't get out and walk around more than a couple minutes. His " wife" is a good bit younger and basically told us that when he dies the tractors will be gone ,cheap. So.............I could wait and maybe get em both for little or nothing, but I like the old fellow and feel bad for him. The tractors were his babies and he was very proud of them. He bought them from all over the country and hauled em back to Alabama. He seems upset that they have been sitting for 4-5 years and really wants someone to buy them that will treasure them like he does. The Z is apparently his favorite, and it is a nice tractor. Brand new tires, well 5 years old and never used. The U was running 4-5 years ago and was parked because of his bad health. He knocked $1000 off his original asking price, and said he hated to do it. Plus he called me about buying it. Sorta makes me feel bad for him. Which makes me a terrible person to buy that U !!!! Right?? It is the one I posted pictures of.

better buy the U , i am sure you wont be disappointed , price is right. good tractors.

Grampa love, I have a yard full of Minnies. My ZTU is a Frankentractor I got from a Lodge brother. I use him to pull the lawn mower and dig the garden. My first UTS is a solid block model in pieces, with major engine grief. Repairable, but will take some time. He was given to me by an old friend and neighbour, now gone. He cried a bit when I towed his tractor out of the yard. My second UTS is a 1950 with hydraulics. Pulled this one out of a neighbour's hay field with major engine and wheel grief. Cost me $230. I'll get to him someday. UTS #3 came from a tractor jockey down south. He liked to deal in low priced, junky old tractors that sort of ran. We had fun and a bit of an adventure getting him home. A few dollars changed hands, but not too much. Gaskets, wheels and tires were the big expense.
I have more tractors, Minnies, JDs, Olivers and Masseys- some run, some will in future, and a couple probably never will again. I have three good runners if I need to push or pull something. I've never had a surplus of funds, but I don't regret a dime I've spent on my tractors. To do heavy lifting jobs, I rent a telehandler, but it ain't cheap. I don't do any serious farming at the moment, so my old iron works just fine. If the UTS tickles your fancy, I'm sure it will fit into your operation. unc

Hey unc, that's the issue ,I
really don't need another work
tractor our Ford 640 and 960 do
any work we need. And the old
farmall cub cuts the grass. The MM
rtu and Oliver 77 are just for fun
as is the '39 Allis B. My friend
Dave and I just hate to see the U
sitting there and wanted to save
it then sell it for a bit of
profit. I don't think there is any
money to be made there. I think
if I was the only one involved I
might get it any way even if I
just break even. But........I
don't have the cash at the moment.

its just too far away for me... those are my favorite minnie tractor. i have 3 of them.
