ZTE all came out in 1948,as well as RTE. Don't recall any E types before. ZTE became ZAE in 49. Alot of ZTE's survived. Know of a pair with consectitive serial numbers.Think they went scrap.

Thanks molinegb, But when did the newer transmission come?
I have purchased a Red nose Z, with a newer type
transmission with no identification tag on it. Would this be
a 1948? The tractor has the extendable front axel.

Then this tractor must be a 1948 ZTE. It has the newer transmission, a distributor, and the old style
front end. I was sure it was a cobbled up ZTU that someone placed an RTE front end on. Now I wonder which is more rare
an RTE Or the first year ZTE? either way I don't have an identification tag.

ZTE,RTE,UTE,ZAE all same front end. In fact ALL extendable axles are the same. ZTE's seem fairly common as well as RTe here. Have ZAE, 2- RTE,ZTE,UTE,UBE diesel Special. WhereI am there is no narrow front tractors. All Wheatland or E fronts.

Roger

There was 12 prototypes ZTEs Built in 1947 if you look at the moline registry. A friend has number 10 was a basket case but is up and running now. The front end was built lighter on the first ones looks the same as other ztes.
