Can someone please educate me on these. Articles on here seem to indicate g1355 is a good tractor, but 2-150 seems to have somewhat of a bad reputation. From what I have read they are basically the same tractor? One common thing discussed talks about an external oil pump?...can someone explain this? I have been around tractors most of my life, but evidently nothing like these? Would you own a White 2-150? Appreciate your thoughts.
Thanks Reaver

External oil pump is just what it is. An update was made to increase the lubrication system of the engine by using an oil pump that is located on the outside of the engine. A friend of mine has a Green (Oliver) G1355 with that oil pump. There are also different engine oil coolers and filter bases for those engines. Would I own one? What are my choices? I am sure you find people that love and people that hate them. We sold 3 of the 2-150 tractors, none of the original owners have them anymore.

Didn't all the White 2-150's have the external pump? I have a G1355 that still has the internal pump. Not the best tractor as they seem to be prone miscellaneous issues (hydraulic,Pto, planetaries, etc) which can be frustrating, but they are some of the biggest 150 horses you'll ever drive.

I have said this before but I see them as money pits. My brother has a White 2-150 and he likes it but has too much money in it, lots of oil pressure issues. They are very expensive to overhaul. I am an Oliver guy but I would get a JD 4630 instead. They are a very good tractor and sell cheep because they only have a 1000 rpm PTO.

We have a 2-150 that we use on the farm. The 585 that had the internal oil pump would wear the teeth of the cam an oil pump gear. You would have to replace the cam and pump gear if not the engine if oil pressure was lost for too long. External oil pump eliminated that issue. Some earlier 585's had valves that would break and drop into the cylinder. G-1355 and the 2-150 are one in the same with different sheet metal and cabs. We have a 2155 (G-1350 MM) that we use only to pull with due to the oil pump issue. Some tractors with internal pumps were converted to the external. The Oliver rear had provision for a hydraulic pump mounted to it. The G-1350 and such had the hydraulic pump mounted to the engine below the injection pump. So, if you want to convert a G-1350 to an external oil pump, you would have to piggyback the hydraulic pump to the engine oil pump. We've used our 2-150 quite a bit hauling manure with 5000 gallon tanker, 28 foot disc, and chisel plowing. All that time we had the pump maxed out with a turbo on it running around 225 hp. It is a bear. One of the most unique smooth sounding engines you'd ever want to drive with a turbo on. We have rebuilt the pto, over/under and had to replace the top transmission shaft which seems to be a problem with most tractors with this style rear/trans. The low range gear and shaft seam to be an issue. I've done at least 3 other Oliver 2255's with this issue also. We also added a double disc clutch out of a 2-180 white to handle all the torque it puts out.

I have six of these tractors, some 2270's, one MM G1355 and a MM 1350, also a White 1870, same as Oliver or MM G955.
If I can be of help shoot me some questions as I have a lot of repair knowledge that has came through the years.

We owned 2 of the 2-150 tractors. Each seemed to have it's own glitches. Used them for heavy tillage and silage cutting. I think mostly was finding out what you could do or shouldn't do. They both seemed to have engine problems. One developed a crack in a casting between the hydraulic and transmission and would thus leak all the hydraulic oil into the trans. Spent a fortune finding that problem. Still own one mostly for nostalgia.
