Jetstar 3 front spindle installation question

The front spindles on my JS3 were bent when I bought it. I was able to pick up a straight used one and the bushings for the top and bottom of the spindle tube. I installed the bushings, and found it hard to get the spindle into the bottom bushings, but once I got it started it was OK. When it got to the top bushing it pushed it out. I have since ruined the bushing trying to get it back in. Does anyone have any suggestions, or have done this before? Thanks, I need help...

That's always a tough one because even a king pin that looks straight may not be perfect and with new bushings, there's little room for error. About all you can do is confirm, before installation, that the bushings fit the pin. Be sure that the pin is clean and free of any burrs and be prepared to "touch things up" with a die grinder.

To do it "right" there is a reamed that fits both bushings at once after they are installed to true them up then you hone them. If you dont want to drop $900 on a new one I would suggest a wheel cylinder hone.

You could check the shaft with a square to see if it is straight. Possibly the knee tube has a small bend in it, but should be ok. I would try what was suggested, check for fit, make sure there aren't any burrs on the shaft and hone if needed. Is there enough of a bevel on the shaft and the bushing so they will go together without it catching on anything?

I got it back together tonight. A little work with the Dremel tool cleaning things up was the answer. Thanks for the tips.

Good deal. If you happen to store your tractor outside I have found it helps to pump each side full of grease so it comes out the top a little. It will help keep water from going down inside. I have even had water come out the top when Im pumping grease in.

I'm lucky enough to have room inside. Although my wife says if I buy anymore MM's I won't have room! She doesn't realize how men can make things fit when we want to...and how when a second horse is mentioned there is not enough room!
