245 PTO speed

My 245 was mostly used for front end loader work but now I'm hooking it up to a bush hog. The PTO has a selector on the trans case which either puts the PTO in direct drive or proportional based on ground speed.
Even reading the manual I'm not sure what lever position the direct drive would be -forward or back. Seems like it is forward but a sanity check would be in order.

Thanks for your input

On our massey 100 series forward towards the heel of your left foot was ground drive pto backwards towards the drawbar was engine driven pto which is what you would want for brush hogging.

Also forgot to say. Not sure how clean your tractor is but everyone Ive seen has it cast right in the case might be covered with oil and dirt?

Engine/live should be pulling the lever back towards the drawbar.

Make sure you have the clutch pedal pushed down through the 2nd stage.

Easy way to tell which is which is to leave trans in neutral, engage PTO, let clutch and and see if the PTO turns.

The PTO will run in reverse in ground drive if trans is in reverse.

Ground drive PTO is quite limited in usefulness, but is excellent for some specific tasks.
