Massey Ferguson MF35 Governor Fail

I just started repair on a late 50 s MF35 that lost the governor. I observed cam drive gear damage from apparent loose pieces falling into the mesh and retrieved pieces of the governor ball retainer cage from the pan (still on). Is this a common Problem? The engine only has 5500 hours on it with all light duty . It looks like the engine is likely a Continental but I can't find out how to positively identify it. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

I saw a cute little girl replacing the governor on a Z 134 like mine on Utube but she already had the front cover and crank pulley off. It took an hour of tapping the crank against the pulley to remove it. The front cover was apparently installed before the pan so the two dowels at the bottom of the front cover aren't about to let the cover come off without releasing the pan gasket. Is there a quick easy method of removing the cover without loosening the pan? Serial No.SGM 244126
 
I have never worked on your model of an engine..
However......parts book shows TWO DOWELS that align front cover to ENGINE BLOCK ...not OIL PAN.?

I understand that, but the cover is held against the cast iron pan with gasket by the dowels and there doesn't appear to be a way to pull the cover straight out with the pan gasket stuck tightly to the bottom of the cover.
