mf 65 mk1 diesel, oil pan crack

on chasing an oil leak down, I have discovered the oil pan / sump is cracked on the front right hand side where it bolts to front axle assembly. It has to come off to be repaired; can it be welded? what is the procedure to remove the pan, ie does front axle need to come off too? Any pointers would be greatly appreciated thanks.

I think you are going to need to remove the front end as it is bolted to the oil pan. Rebuilt the motor in my 65 diesel a few years back and the front end is rather unruly once you unbolt it. Good luck. Be sure you get a professional welder to weld or braze it or you may be doing it again. How did it get broken? Might be better off looking for a good used oil pan instead of welding it. It is very heavy duty. Good luck with it

Thanks Phil, I suspected it would not be straight forward, I think I will locate a pan as a plan B just in case. the hairline crack runs from the top of the pan through to the bottom, inside the right angle flange that bolts to the front axle assembly. I purchased the tractor a few months back at a good price.. I cant imagine what could have caused it to crack, although it was set up with a push bar on the front for shunting rail wagons filled with sugar cane,, and the right hand steering knee has had the turning stop lug sheared off.. apart from that runs well!

Have found an oil pan but it is from a mark 2.. without the wedge.. I m sure it won t fit tho,, can anyone tell me?

I don't think it will according to the part numbers for the different oil pans. I'm pretty sure you will probably need a pan that has the wedge piece. For the mk2 diesel they show 3 different oil pans, and oil pan gaskets according to what the engine serial number is.
