Massey baler #12 knotter problems

Worked great last year and didn?t miss a tie. Got it ready this year and tried first time today with some hay and can?t get the knotter clutch to trip down when the bale length arm trips.
Picture was before cleaning some

Sorry couldn?t get it to post, but you lift the arm to
trip the knotters clutch manually and the lever on
the knotter clutch won?t drop down. I think it?s just
gummed from sitting the winter but I?ve soaked it in
penetrating oil and still don?t have luck. The spring
is still there

The whole knotter can be removed to check inside that clutch assembly. Remove the long arm to the needle carriage and the two bolts near the bale counter, then remove the springs from the twine strippers on top of the chamber. (Think that is it?) The knotter simply pivots away from that clutch assembly.

There is a roller type thing that could be jammed up.

Also, have you ever greased all the hex head set screws on the knotter shafts? They unwind out and a normal grease fitting will screw in. I replaced all my set screws with grease fittings. They were intended to be a "once a season" grease so MF made it hard to "over grease"

Do you have to re time it after swinging it out was
my only reason I haven?t. I did grease them before
pulling out of shed

You should not have to retime if you do not disturb anything else like the chains.

You can always double check the timing once you've put it back together. Decal should be on side of the chamber how to check timing.

Thanks a ton. Got it off and cleaned up this
afternoon. Way easier then what I was trying the
other day. Thanks for the words of wisdom
