Massey Ferguson 50 Hydraulics.

I have a 1958 model 50 and the hydraulics are very slow to operate. Ipulled the side cover off as my manual instructed me to do but couldn't find the pump where they said it should be. According to the manual the pump and filter was supposed to be right in the bottom of the transmission case inside the side cover. Where is it at and how does one go about changing it. Do I have to split the tractor?

get a manual and there is a video. the pump is in there. very early MF 50's with the 2 1/2 inch cylinder don't have a filter. you do not have to split the tractor,
everything comes out the top. it is not an overly difficult job but you need the manual to set things correctly when you go back together. I really recommend the video
too and it is available on this site. BUT you may first want to drain and flush and replace the fluid first if you haven't already done so.

I have NO experience with the MF 50.

My service manual indicates, the info for,my MF FE 35 X Hydraulics is the same as the MF 50:

CHECK for STRAINER....as in clogged?

Older styled pump may NOT have a STRAINER?
