I use 10w 40 oil summer & winter for the crankcase. I only use
in winter time to plow 800' driveway. In the summer time, for
maintainance on the driveway. Is this oil okay?

Should be just fine unless you way far north and temps get below zero a lot. Here in Missouri I use a 20W50 in all my machines

I use 10-40 in my 65 gas here on the NY/Ontario border in the Thousand Islands region. Seems to do the job.

I like the diesel spec oils due to still having the additives necessary for flat tappet cams. That said, I have never had a problem and likely wouldn't have.

Anyway, I use mine for snow duty mainly and after watching 15w-40 pouring at 32 degrees, decided to switch to 5W-40 diesel spec. I changed the oil when it was 25 degrees outside and it poured well at that temp. This engine is fresh with low hours so your results may vary. Dropping from 15w to a 5w oil caused it to start easier and I haven't seen any drop in oil pressure. I did notice that the engine was quieter on startup.
