MF 135 Oil leak near water pump

I have a MF135 Perkins gas engine and have oil leaking near where the water pump mounts to the engine. Do I just need to replace the gasket behind the water pump?

That's a bit puzzling. If the gasket behind the water pump has in fact 'gone', surely it would leak coolant, not oil?

The 3 cylinder Perkins is pretty much bullet proof providing you maintain it properly, and don't use implements that need a lot more power than what it makes. The head gasket seems to be the only gasket that will give you a problem if you overheat it.

Yes I agree, the only time we ever took the fuel tank off our 135 diesel was to replace a rocker cover gasket. we had that tractor from new in 1965 until we got out of farming in 1996 and that tractor was in use every day.

Clean it up well to see where the oil is leaking.

Probably the rocker cover gasket.

Check to see that the breather tube is not plugged.
