MF 65 Arghhhh!!!!!!Panic!!!!

I have just put my tractor back together after renewing the brakes and things are not looking good!

With the axles refitted and both wheels still off the ground I am able to turn each wheel independently with the other rotating in the opposite direction, but when I try to turn both wheels at the same time the transmission locks up and something sounds slack or clunky around the differential area.

Have I missed something important when refitting the axles?, indeed which one should go on first? or does it not matter?

Thanks in anticipation,

cheers, Ali.

It sounds like your differential is partial engaged. I'd remove the pedal and see if the shaft that locks it in is moving freely.

I've just got back from my tractor and things don't look as bad at the moment.
I removed the right-hand axle to find the caged roller bearing mis-shapen, I must have not been lined up properly when I located the axle last week, having checked that everything turns freely I have tried to refit the axle and it has gone together fine and both wheels now turn together although if I turn only the other no longer goes in reverse might this be a problem?
Does anyone know if I can have caused any more damage than the bearing? it doesn't look like it at the moment.
Cheers, Ali.

you sure it was not in gear the first time and you took it out of gear for the second test? A differential will make the opposite tire turn in reverse if the input is locked in gear.
