what is a good grade of oil for the tranny and diff assmbly? also lots of oil in P.S. resevoir, but tractor is very hard to steer, almosy i believe worse than normal steering, any ideas?

10w30 for both and type A in the ps. Without a loader on the front it should turn easily, you may need to jack up front and investigate.

i did as you say, jacked up the ft end, seems like there is something catching somewhere, must be inside cause nothing externally, then gets a little better. i am going to see if oil level in box is ok, otherwise may have to take apart.

There are adjustments on each side of the steering sector. To determine where the "catch" is you will need to remove the tie rods running from sector to front end. You will probably find something froze in the axle. And yeah grease it up good first.

Brian go to the ferguson forum and go to search box at top of page, type in steering and search archives especially around # 67. You'll get good info.

thanks very much for the info i jacked up the ft and as soon as i disconnected the tie rods things moved . one of the ft axles was seazed so bad i could not get it apart. i had a complete axle from a 2085 so took the one side needed and used it. all seems to be good now, just need a wheel bearing, and will oil and grease everything.
