Tappets and Break-in Oil Question

I am replacing all the rings on my MH44 K (H260) sometime this week, and need to know:
1. What type of oil do I need to use for break-in and how long do I keep it in the tractor?
2. How fast and how long should I run the motor once it is all assembled?
This is my 1st time doing it. Thank you for any assistance.

Every engine manufacture says adjusting the valves, first 200hrs and every 2000 after. On the instillation oil, I am sure you can get some cam lube for assembly, but STP is a good engine product to use...

If you haven't had the block hot tanked and completely cleaned out all of the oil passages do not use a detergent oil. Detergent oil will break loose the built up sludge and can plug the passages.

Unless the manufacturer requires a different procedure, I use regular engine oil. Pre-lube if you can. Dry starts are hard on bearings. I assume you used assembly lube for the bearings. If you have a new cam, it must be "broken in". Usually that is at a specific RPM. In automotive it's usually around 2,000 RPM for 15-30 minutes. Keep your eyes peeled for leaks, noises anything unusual and be prepared to shut it down. After the initial start-up and run to operating temp, I usually change the oil and filter. Hope this helps. there is a lot more critical things to know and do before worrying about oil. as you said first time doing it.
you just keep using the same oil as before re-ring job... that's if it is 10-30 is a good break in oil. you run it at a fast idle for at least 1 hr. at operating temp even cover rad if nessesary then retorque the head and re-adjust the valves. then you put it to work under a light load. even throttle back 1/2 speed and then full throttle every so often. this will seat the rings into the cyl's. give it a straight 8 hr. work out if possible.

David, I did not disassemble the engine, I pulled the head and pistons. Had the head reworked though. Thanks for the question. Sapper
