JD 4010 choke valve stuck closed (choked)

We have had an issue more than once with the choke butterfly valve sticking closed. You have to actually go into the throat and knock it back from vertical. Anybody had this happen? Do I need to get a new carburetor? (This last time I think it got that way from a small backfire as I was starting it.) Gas engine.

Have the same problem with a gas 3020, was going to add a spring to pull it back, just have not got to it yet. I had a cheap choke cable laying around to use, maybe if I had a better one I would have a
problem, but still better than the old stuck cable.

You don't need a new carburetor. Maybe the butterfly or shaft was damaged in the backfire. Remove the choke cable and work the choke manually and see if and where it sticks. You make need
to remove the carb to repair the problem.
