Hello! My Dad purchased a JD 2240 a few months ago and we've been replacing some parts and found the mechanical tach drive cable was broke! Problem is we can't find where the engine end of the cable and shroud attach! It may have had a alternator with a mechanical tach drive, not sure, any help would be appreciated and pictures! Thank You

The Mechanical tach drive cable connects to the end of the cam shaft. It's threaded hole is in the top upper right corner on back side of clutch housing flange. Under front right corner of battery box above brake pedals. You will need to use a nettle nose or flat duck bill pliers to thread the cable nut in and out of hosing. Removing the steering supply line helps to gain access to cable nut. Turn internal cable to index it with mating drive pin in end of cam and then follow with retaining nut. DW

IIRC... High SN 2240s (35,000 & up ?) have an electronic tach. Low SN 2240s (0-34,999?) have a mechanical. Do you know your SN? We have a low SN 2240... I can look at it and send a photo later today.

Thank You So Much for the info! Found it! Worse part is someone crammed a piece of wood up in the drive to block the oil flow!
