2520 with 2640 engine

I have a nice (except for paint) 2520 gas. I might end up with a 2640
with hydraulic and power train issues. Has between 3000-4000 hours.
Might not be feasible to repair.
I'm thinking putting engine into the 2520. The 2520 is for sale so
it's not like I'm doing it for myself.
Would this be worth the expense or should I sell it like it is and
forget about the 2640?

if you end up with the 2640, find out what you will really have to do to repair it. break it down into sections, then you might find out that its fixable, because from what you are saying, you are going to take it half way apart anyway. If you fix it then you have two tractors. We often make things harder than they are...

Early or late 2640, there were some upgrades.
If the 276 engine's wet sleeves are still good. It will make an easy 90Hp at PTO rpm.
Why however swap in the diesel engine ? The difference in fuel consumption is of no consequence unless you are using the tractor for heavy tillage for hundreds of hours per year.
Syncro or power shift ?

If you were going to keep it I would switch engines but if selling you might be better off to sell as a gas and pass on the 2640 and buy something good. If the 2640 has hi low shift on the dash and it has problems the repairs can cost the price of the tractor. If the hyds are bad and you remove the engine there is very little left of value on the 2640. You would have a great running 2520. I put a 219 in my 2510 many years ago. Tom

The owner has decided to fix the 2640. Possibly over $9000 in parts.
Don't agree but I will check around tomorrow for a few used parts if
I can find anything good.
I just thought I might buy and scrap it but I'm better off this way.

The 219 diesel motor had several applications and is almost a bolt in It seems there was a 239 that worked well too.I have bought a couple gases that were converted and you would never know it if the second
battery is installed. I thought they were almost same power as 3020 but they are short a few ponies.

I have repowered 2510 gas tractors with the 276. The owners of one of them all said the 3020's (which they had several of) all took a back seat to the 2510 with the 276. The long stroke 276 was a very good performer when it came to HP. Took a good 3020 to see 70 HP the 2630 / 40 with the 276 would hand you 72 HP with change and more torque.

i have been looking for a 2510/2520 in that kind of shape, if you were to let it go as it is let me know, maybe we can make a deal.
