2040 rear tires

My 2040 has 24.9x28 tires on it. Tractor data says it should have 13.6x28. Im gonna have to put rims and tires on it so Id like to do it as cheaply as possible. Will going to 13.6s hurt anything.

13.6x28 OD is 51.6" while 14.9x28 OD is 53.8" so you'll lose a little ground speed & gain a small amount of torque other than that you should be fine.

Have you priced replacements, so that you know the smaller sizes will be appreciably cheaper? Unless you're only driving around on a hard surface, I'd sure hate to down size.

It won't hurt to go with 13.6s but I would stay with 14.9s. by the parts catalog, they use the same rims so the only difference will be in the price of the tires. And you may find as good a deal on 14.9s as 13.6s.

Best to take Tractor Data with a grain of salt .
The real JD parts book, free on the JD web site states the following .

If there is a question or issue, my email is on every single page of the site.

13.6x28 is what Deere listed as the reference tire size in the sales literature. Documents A-2-76-11, A-2-77-11, A-2-80-11, and A-2-81-11.

I have NEVER claimed the site was a substitute for operator, parts, or service manuals and explicitly tell owners to purchase and use those books.

14.9X28 tire is listed in 2040 parts catalog #1763.

Even though there are a few mistakes on Tractordata I think Peter performed an excellent task compiling/publishing all that information.

Some variations in pre and post serial number break tractors .
14.9X28 would be the best choice unless the
odd sized industrial or orchard tires were found cheap .

Just
To be sure . The tractor is question is the small three cylinder version built for the US market in Dubuque or Mannheim ?

Thanks , I should have checked. Was thinking of the four cylinder utility tractors where Dubuque production ended at the serial number break . All 40 series Production was moved to Mannheim at that time .

Some 2030's manufactured for sales in N America were built in Mannheim & serial # ended with a "L".

IIRC all 40 series JD utility tractors for N American sales were built in Mannheim & after that Dubuque facilities were utilized for industrial tractors
