Please help me choose.

Exciting day today. I made a 3 tractor purchase from an estate of a friend of the family. I purchased a Spoker D (more later), an early '20s Case 12-20 and a 1940 John Deere BR. They have all been thoroughly restored mechanically as well as cosmetically - complete restorations about 10 years ago. The tractor have been stored in an old barn - no rain or sunlight getting to them but some birds and a lot of dust and cobwebs have :D

But here is my question for this forum. I get my choice of one of the two Spokers:

1. 1925 Spoker D
-or-
2. 1926 Spoker D with a PTO

Both machines are complete, freely turn and have a older high end restoration but haven't run in a couple years.

I have two photographs below; sorry they aren't more detailed or more of them. The '25 is the one on the left.

Which one would you choose and why?

You sure about year in the PTO D? There should not be any
1926 Ds with spoke flywheels. You need to get the serial
number to make sure of the year or make sure what flywheel
it’s suppose to have. I’m go guessing the seller told you
wrong. Either way I’d go with the PTO D.
 
I agree with green envy, check serial numbers in regards to the spoke flywheel. I thought there were some 26's with the spoke, and in 27 there was something called the "nickel hole" flywheel, but I've
forgotten a lot of the nitty gritty.

I looked at the photo I took of the brass plate. The serial number is: 35421 which I believe makes it a very early 1926

Do you think that makes a difference in value? It has the PTO. Which I had of taken a photo of the PTO! :?
 

I found the following online:

"Serial #'s 36249-38285 were built as what they called the "nickel-hole" flywheel tractors"

So this 1926 that I have a shot at (serial number 35421) is about 1,000 tractors ahead of when they changed to the nickel hole.
 
The last spoker D was built 12/29 1925. Your tractor was built
in 1925 but is a 1926 “model”. So everything is correct. And
like I keep saying go for the tractor with the more rare options.
 
The nickel hole flywheel would be the rarest of them all. Only a couple thousand were made and most failed and got replaced by the newer flywheel. Kind of like low radiator Gs.
 

Thank you very much for the information! Is there anywhere I can look to find out when the tractor was actually built and when it was sold, etc?

Also, was a PTO a factory option or was it added later? Do you have any concerns choosing this one with the PTO?
 
there was a 26 " flywheel on the spokers to start out with. then they made the 24 " flywheel to reduce cracking. are they both 24 "
flywheels? should be if they are 25 and 26 models. i would say the early 26 inch flywheel is worth more if its all original on a tractor. the
nickel hole also came out in 1926 to reduce the cracking but it did not work. would have to look each one over. those wheels with the rubber
installed on then devalues them a lot. what is he asking for them? under 10k? that guy was asking on here what to ask for them. you would
ahve to check the mag's also if they are original. to me they are painted tractors so that devalues them also. plus ask for reciepts. see
which one had more money poured into it. you dont know whats under that paint. you dont know if they have been rebored, sleeved or just a set
of rings stuck in them. were they totally disassembled then rebuilt? or just cleaned and painted. ? i sure would not just pick one , its a
gamble with out more info. if there was an original one with no paint on it sitting beside those two thats the one i would pick. paint hides
too much and those dont have a professional paint job anyhow.
 
and they should have the brass carb's. plus check the steering for play. see if its not worn out as it should have been fixed if they are restored. and if i was choosing i would be starting each one and driving it.
 
The wheels have been modified for parading on pavement obviously, I would be asking the seller if he has the original parts to put back on them. It shouldn't matter, but if he only has one set and will only let them go with a specific one of the tractors, that would be a fairly big factor in decision making.
 
Looks like a good deal. Are these the
ones that where in Canada. Also the one
you don't pick is that one maybe up for
sale. I seen a lot of replys on these and
it really all that matters is that your
happy with them. There's lots of guys
with deep pockets that can't fix them up
and will buy them just the way they are.
