2940 Hydraulic Problems

We are using our 2940 to run a 3point sawdust blower and about a month ago I was using it and turned the PTO on to dump the load and the Pto Clutch just slipped, the
shaft started to turn and quit. We emptied about half the load and was able to use to Pto to blow the rest out. We tested the pressure to the clutch at the test ports on
top the transmission and had 300psi like the manual said we should. We then changed the hydraulic filter, pickup screen and steering filter as well as the hydraulic oil
the tractor has always had Johndeere oil and filters since new. We then put about 3 hours on it since then running the blower and the Pto worked great until tonight I
dumped 2 loads and the clutch slipped when I engaged the PTO, emptied about 3/4's of the load and was able to blow the rest out. But I think there could be more than just
the Pto clutch at fault here, because after changing the oil the 3 point and remotes were SLOW like just faster than creeping up when raising the 3 point and the ram on
the sawdust blower. But they seemed to gradually get faster and tonight they seemed to work okay, but when I was using wetter sawdust and the hydraulics were slow the ram
wouldn't even pick up half of a load in the blower. Also sometimes when using the remotes it won't do anything until dropping the 3point. Any thoughts as to what could be
going on here? Thanks

I forgot to add when our mechanic changed the filters he said the gasket on the hydraulic filter appeared as it was being sucked into the middle of the filter.

With 3 pt in raised position hyd oil at operating temp look inside hyd filler hole behind seat for moving/spraying oil. Moving oil indicates leaking rockshaft control valve seals.

Are you positive about pto operating pressure is 300 psi? I was thinking more in the range of 165 psi BUT it's been decades since I read a 2940 tech manual.

Another possibility is the hyd supply tube that furnishes hyd oil pressure to pto clutch has failed or possibly pto clutch seal has failed. Remove shift cover then apply compressed air to tube while listening fo escaping air indicated failed component. These tubes I mentioned have a long history of failure.

I will check for moving oil behind the filler cap. My cousin who is a heavy equipment mechanic is working on it and I believe he said he had 300psi, whatever it was he
said it was in the range the Tech manual said it was supposed to be in. This tractor has been split once before for a cracked oil supply tube about 4-5 years ago we lost
steering and brakes.
