Two John Deere 70 carburetor questions

First question - After my John Deere 70 sits for a while you have to crank and crank on it to run. Might take a total of a minute or more worth of cranking with a couple pauses. If the tractor was shut off and restarted after a short time it starts right up. Is the problem something to do with the fuel bowl on the carburetor losing fuel? Where is it leaking?

Second question - A couple of my John Deere two cylinders with the duplex carburetors (50 & 70) want to run on one cylinder at lower and mid rpm's. Pull the choke partway up to maybe 3/4 and both cylinders will fire continuously. Is this due to some plugged carburetor passages?
Thanks for your ideas.

Andy....does your 70 have the oil pressure shut off valve on the sediment bowl assembly? That is the first thing I eliminate on my 70 gas models....more trouble than they are worth. Just need to always check your oil pressure when you start the engine and use a manual shut off on the fuel line.

On the 70, before you try starting it after sitting, take and press down on the button on top of the shutoff bowl and watch the fuel flow into the bowl and carb. It will fire right off if the carb is full. Must have a leak somewhere on it. The other one's need a good cleaning, meaning remove the balls to get all the passages clean.

Also agree with get rid of the auto fuel shutoff and you might check the float level it may be too low.
