JD A 70 Axle Color

JD 1951 A and JD 1954 70: I painted the rear axles on the inside of the wheels black. Should the axle that is exposed on the outside of the wheels be painted black or yellow? I have seen restored tractors painted both ways. Thanks!

Have painted the axle on my tractors black, definitely not yellow or green, have seen some taken dow to bare metal then clear coated. Bottom line is it is your tractor so do what you think looks best.

That is what we did.

Never saw an axle on any 2 cylinder painted except at Deere expo and if I remember correctly they wanted black. I know if axle was not painted to wanted it could not be shown. Neighbor had that problem after he hauled his tractor from Ohio to Iowa. He went and bought a guart of paint of what they wanted and a brush and repainted and then they would let it be shown. But I have never saw a working tractor with painted axles. My 2 a's and 2 B's were not painted. Paint would act like glue if you wanted to adjust wheel tread.
