Mounting no. 5 mower on 39 A

I have a no. 5 mower with the quick tach hitch. The old manual shows the mower directly bolts to the early JD and b tractors. Is there any reason a pair of quick tach adapted brackets couldn't be made for an early A? Also the tractor has power lift and the mower has a remote cylinder. Can't I just swap a power trol in place of the old power lift? Thanks,

Pete

Brackets are pretty simple to make. Some angle iron and 2 bits or round stock. Powertrol and powerlift can be swapped easily also

We had a '46 JD A when I was much younger and used to mow lots of hay with a No. 5 JD mower. We didn't have a quick hitch but did use a hydraulic cylinder on the lift. I don't think we had the power-trol, just the power lift but it was plumbed with a single outlet and we used a single action cylinder with one hose. Worked great.

You should be able to fabricate a pair of drawbar angles.

Take a look at the [b:654c4848f0]EXTENSION DRAWBAR[/b:654c4848f0] diagram below.

Take a look at the photo below.

There are two styles of drawbar angles designed for the No. 5 mower.

The drawbar angles displayed on the right are designed for the Quik-Tach hitch.

Take a look at the photos below of the dimensions of the round stock.

Take a look at one of our No. 5 mowers on "Easy" our 1946 Model A.

Hope this helps.

The earlier A's and B's had a different style drawbar than the later ones and the numbered series. Not sure what style the OP has, but since it's a '39 I'm wondering if he has the early style. Will those brackets work on that style drawbar? I don't have pics--sorry!

No.

Take a look at the similar drawbar on "Uncle Earl" our 39B.

Yes I do have the old style drawbar assembly. I have a pair of quick tach brackets on my late b which I used with the mower last year. I was more or less wondering whether similar brackets could be made for the old drawbar assembly without bolting the mower to the tractor.
