hello,, digging deeper into the 7230 with 10 bent pushrods!! IT IS !!! valve timing issue. the cam had stopped turning, i have not removed the broken cam yet,, just got the timing cover off at quitting time. when i removed the holddown behind the cam gear and pulled on the gear,, all i got was the first journal,, cam broke off just behind the first journal,, the cam is broken again because i can finger thru the first journal bore and the cam is broken off from the rest of the cam,, just flopping around. since the pistons smacked the valves HARD as the engine wound down what are your thoughts about removing the head again to check for bent valves,, i just had this head off 3 months ago.. i will try removing the rest of the cam tomorrow..

Sounds like a good candidate for a reman long block. If it hit that hard you will have bent valves, possibly damaged guides, and damaged pistons. If this is the second issue in 3 months a complete tear down is in order,

Be wise to tear it down and start over. If the engine uses long barrel style tappets the tops may be broken too when the bent push rods got bent. Diesels don't have piston to valve clearance during the overlap period like most gas engines do.
