420 Making Oil

Got a 2 cyl late 420 and it is making oil and it doesn't appear to be water. Oil is not cloudy, but has a slight gasoline smell. It has a slight power steering leak but I don't think that can get into the crankcase. Tractor runs fine, starts easiely, lots of power. What do you think and where do I start looking?

Hydraulic pump shaft seal. The hydraulic pump is bolted to the timing cover. Check your hydraulic oil level and see if it's low (or goes lower as you use it).

It's either gas or hydraulic oil. Since you smell gas it's kinda obvious you have a carburetor issue. By all means loosen the petcock and check the Tom oil level too.

I'll bet it is the hydraulic pump shaft seal. How much of a job to repair/replace it?
