'41 B fuel tank removal....

hey gang,

I was told by a nice old coot that I could remove the main fuel tank from my '41 B without removing the hood, etc.
Seems I've heard that before, too.
I've eyeballed this thing 47 different ways and just can't quite see it... could it be that it might work on later styled tractors that have the shield?

Certainly no problem to remove the hood and all, but it's a serious nuisance. Just trying to get by being lazy.
Advice, tricks, even possible?

Tanks, Fr. Bob

You have to pull the hood. The guys that didn't likely bent the snot out of the hood to get room to pry it out.

Take a look at the information below.

"[b:654c4848f0]Two well respected contributors with differing opinions. :)[/b:654c4848f0]"

The information from the service manual clearly indicates that the fuel tank can be removed without removing the hood.

However, I agree with [b:654c4848f0]Mike M[/b:654c4848f0] to "[i:654c4848f0]pull the hood[/i:654c4848f0]".

Mr. Howell,

It certainly does... the RIGHT answer isn't always the easy one.

I've done it before. Several times, in fact, which is WHY I asked the question in the first place. :)
I don't relish doing it again. Kinda like diapers, I s'pose. Unpleasant for the changer, but necessary.
Alas, it's only 6,000 screws and bolts. Nothin better to do on a Saturday morning, right?

Thanks, genuinely...

Bob

Well I had not read the service manual. LOL. Books says it can be done so it must be able to be done on the early ones ? Sure would be hard to get it all aligned up and centered and the brackets in though I'd think. I like to paint the insides of the hood and the out sides of the tanks to help prevent them from rusting out. I still think I'd remove the hood.

Gentlemen, I agree too!
All done. still not sure I could have done what the book clearly states can be done. Removing the hood was easier....
All in all, not a bad morning chore. Pot of coffee and a good cigar makes everything all better.

Y'all are the best,
Bob
