4020 charging

A family friend lives on a farm, her husband passed away a few years ago. She let the 4020 sit all winter and the batteries are dead as a doornail. Can I stick my charger on one side and let it charge, or do I have to disconnect the two batteries first? Joe.

You can charge a battery with the correct voltage battery charger + to + and - to - without unhooking it !!!!!!!

If its a 4020 Diesel it has batteries connected in series BUT STILL YOU CAN CHARGE ONE BATTERY ON ONE SIDE + to + and - to - from correct voltage charger to that one battery and not unhook the other. I would charge them BOTH to as near equal charge state as you can so ones not stronger then the other.

Thanks, yes it's a diesel with two batteries. Just needed to know if I had to disconnect them while charging. Heading over shortly to get them going, Joe.

In addition to what the others said:
on my 4020, I sometimes have to put the battery charger on to get it to start. But you never know which side is causing the problem. Sometimes when I put the charger on, it still won't start. If I then put the charger on the battery on the other side, it will start.
