JD2520 engines

What different engines can you install into a JD2520. Bolt right up. Turbo would be good. Might buy a
JD2520 with a cracked block. Thanks for your help.

I suppose any Dubuque 300 series engine from a crawler or wheel tractor will fit. You have to be careful of some newer engines that do not have engine-blocks heavy enough to support the tractor. 219 turbo from a 450B crawler would make a nice donor.

Any 300 series four cylinder Dubuque engine will bolt up. With that said, the non structural block is not the best choice if you plan on mounting a loader on this tractor. If you chose to used the 4276 or 4.5 engine the oil pan has to be clearance for #4 connecting rod as it will hit the back/shallow part of oil pan. Been there and done this. The best choice for all ease of doing this the short stroke 4239. If tractor is a Power Shift the turboed 4276 will slip the transmission. Also been there and done that with fresh rebuilt PS transmission. If you have a synchro transmission you will be fine. If you put the 4276 in the 2510 or 20 all your friends will junk their 3020's when they find out what a dog the 3020 is compared to a 25 with the torque of the 4276. Very Ballsy! Got a lead on a 4276 with side mounted turbo if interested. Starts and runs great! DW

My 2520 was originally gas. I wanted to put a 239 in it, but a 219 became available close by. I installed it, and if I remember correctly, had the fuel flow increased 10%. Made a different tractor out of it.

I bought a nicely converted 2520 gas that the seller said the 239D was the engine of choice.I had another late 3020D here at the time and there was very little difference even though they were rated at least 10H.P. difference.
