JD MT Wiring

Got the hood off my MT yesterday and the wiring is really bad. Found a old mouse nest in behind the switch and the wires have all been chewed on.

I went on this site (along with others) and WOW the wiring harness are expensive (>$200). Any reason why? They don't look overly complex.

I would be up for making my own but does anyone have a good wiring diagram and what gauges of wire I should use? I want to add headlights to my tractor. It is all original 6V with a generator and cut-out relay.

Thanks for all your help.

Take a look at the photos below of one method of rewiring a Model MT or Model M tractor that "[i:654c4848f0]is all original 6V with a generator and cut-out relay.[/i:654c4848f0]".

Went out and checked the wiring on the M and the majority of the wire is size 12.

The red wire from the starter switch to the ammeter is size 10.

Hope this helps.

Yes it does. Thank you again for going and checking! I greatly appreciate the help.

I would suggest soldering on the terminals and using 1 inch heat shrink boots to seal the connection. (I double boot mine.) It does take a good bit more time to build
them that way but it cuts way down on future problems and looks great. The better harnesses are made this way with some having the original cloth wrapped wire. That's why
they are so expensive.
