Bearing and noise

1941 A - would a worn thrust bearing make a clacking noise at idle and go away on acceleration. If so is it an in frame fix.

what thrust bearing are we talking about? Have you checked flywheel and driver tightness and conditions of splines?

I Read the flywheel issues in the archives and dabbled with it but could find no issues at least none I could recognize. Had a friend listen to it and he brought up the bearing wear. I should have said Main bearing.

Have you listened to the governor/fan shaft carefully???

Those gears and bearings are often worn and make kind of a "whirrring" or howling noise.

I replaced the shaft, no issues there---- gov I dont know. But the noise I am hearing is at low rpm
only and and knocks in the sump area like tapping a ball pein, up the rpms it goes away.

have you tried moving flywheel and pulley up and down, front and back for play? what is your end play? How about valve lash?
