late 730 clutch

is it a lot different to adjust a clutch on a late 730jd, this one has two adjustment jam nuts and bolts. I've never done one of these. I have a book on a 730 diesel clutch but having a hard time figuring it out. This tractor is a 730 gas very late model, one of the last. When I pull the lever back with medium throttle the pulley won't stop. If I idle tractor back it will stop. It will also let oil pass a little when I pull back on lever hard. I think it needs adjustment. There is no play when I pick up on the pulley to ck for slack. email is open, thanks

You need to figure out which screw adjusts the pulley brake. With the engine idling and the clutch disengaged turn the pulley brake screw in till the pulley stops coasting. I think the other screw is a stop for how far the brake comes off the pulley.

You need to review Service bulletin 263. There were changes to the clutch that are not in the book. There are stops inside the hosing, on the main bearing casting that are adjusted for 60 thou clearance. If it is too tight, the pulley will continue to turn, no matter how you adjust the pulley stops. This FSB covers it all.

Does this only apply to 730's? How high of serial number or how close to the end of production? I have a bunch of old service bulletins somewhere and find them interesting reading. Tom

When Deere made changes on the later model 20 series ( BLACH DASH ) they update many things on the Clutch system.
By having the internal adjustment on the brass throw out yoke it helped prevent people using the clutch for a tractor
brake. New improved much better system when it's adjusted working correctly.

well took clutch out and found my two disk with the metal in the middle had both come apart. junk. and the transmission was way overfull.. got all clean and put back together , changing transmission oil than I'll see what happens. thanks
