Tx Jim,
And for anyone else...

Thanks for your help. The last post I was referring to a piece of thin metal that is placed over the shift rod. After looking at some videos online I saw the piece I was talking about.
Next question
How do I remove the cover for the gear shifters?
I would like to put a new gasket on while I have things apart. Is there a connecting rod in there for the hi-lo? Do I have to split the tractor?

One can remove shift cover with gear shift levers simply by removing the bolts and pulling shift cover straight up. One needs to install new -rings on tubes and a new shift cover mounting gasket.

Ok. I have tried but I was meeting some resistance.
I was not sure if there was some type of linkage for
the high-low system connected and did not want to
damage something.

oops forgot to load photo.

Thank you for all your help.

Just so I understand,I should leave the small cover on the plate where the hi-lo attachment is and disconnect it from the area in the diagram?

Under the shifter plate there is nothing to disconnect?
Sorry for all the questions. The IT manual I have does not explain things very well. I need to get a service manual from JD.

I think one should leave hi-lo valve body attached to shift cover unless there's an oil leak. There are 4 hyd tubes that stick into gear shift cover from the bottom.
