John Deere B PTO

Had the rear cover off of my 1945 "B" so I could replace the axle seals. I noticed that the PTO shaft is twisted. We do use it on a 5 foot brush hog. I'm wondering how much twist a PTO shaft can take and if the late styled "B" has a heavier shaft and would it fit on my early styled "B".

Can you check your serial number? The '45 model started with serial number 173179 (This Site).
My parts book shows the PTO Shaft is the same from Serial Number 149700 thru 200999. Your model should fit within these numbers. If you have the small 1 1/8 shaft, you might have an earlier number tractor than the 1945. We only have a '40 Model B and it it has the small shaft.

From serial# 149700 to the end of B production the same pto shaft seal was used (AA2296R). This tells me the pto shafts were the same diameter from 149700 (mid '43) to the end of production.
