I'm getting my grandfathers old jd4020. It's sat up around 3 years when he passed he was working on it. The steering was creeping on it. You had to constantly turn the wheel to make it go straight until the steering was locked out. He passed before he could get it fixed and backed together. It's tore down right now and I don't know a whole lot about it but just wondering if anyone has suggestions before I tear into it. How do I need to go about trying to get it running? New tank of propane? New battery? Etc

Thanks for your help.

I'd check all the fluid levels and top them off if needed. Look at the condition of them too. If water got in them etc. a change first may be in order or you can drain it off the bottom sometimes. LP does not go bad but sometimes the regulators and valves can ? Try charging the battery maybe it will come to life ? I would do as little as possible and try and get it running first. Then you can check everything out and see what does and does not work and go from there.

Was he working on the steering motor up front ? That's where he should have been . Get a teck. manual as the steering motor wasn't that difficult .

yeah he was working on the motor on the front. I'll check fluids and and charge battery then start working on steering. Bunch of parts around it hopefully all of them are still there
