John Deere M Locked up

Hello I am new here and I have a question for some people that no more than I do (would not take a lot) I have a 1950 John Deere M that has been setting for about 5 or 6 years and it seems the motor is locked up. It did run 6 or so years ago. I recently bought a sawmil and I want to us my little M to pull some logs. I put a combination of things in the spark plug holes. PB blaster (can after can) ATF,kroil oil, and some kerosene someone told me would be good for it. I did all this and it soaked for about 2 months. Every night or at least every other night I would rock the tractor in 3rd or 4th gear hoping to break it loose. Over the week end I coasted down a hill popping clutch in 4th gear. I know this could be a bad idea but I have seen my grandfather do this when a tractor would be locked up. If he were here now he would tell me to do that until it frees up. I took the stater out hoping it was locked up but no luck. Any help please? I know the last time the tractor ran my dad parked it there and ran great. Just to many year of sitting I guess...Help Please? I am no mechanic..

Slamming the thing probably isn't the
best idea. You can bend valves, push
rods, rods etc. Have you pulled valve
cover and checked for stuck (and maybe
now bent) valves? After that i would
keep rocking it and or using a pry bar
in the starter hole. It took a while to
get stuck, probably take some time to
unstick.

I can understand wanting this thing loose but you have to slow down a bit and take some time with it. I would skip the hill/clutch method and go with what Patsdeere said. Valve cover gaskets are cheap enough for those where you should get yourself a peak in there before you do more damage. Did you drain what's in the oil pan? Is it full of water? Did any of your inputs make it down past the rings yet? Take the oil pan off. Again, cheap gasket for the oil pan, and you will likely wanna get the sludge out of the bottom of it if you break it loose anyways.

This one had been stuck for awhile. You don't know what you got till you look inside.

That one is really stuck.

Can you take the rods loose and get block out?

If so, I would do that, then use a press to drive them out.

My neighbor had a VAC Case that's stuck, we
watched him and his son pull it up and down the
road behind a truck while they would dump the
clutch on that old girl hoping it would break the
engine loose. All they accomplished was bending
the rods. I highly suggest not to do this.

Thanks for all the advice.I knew it was not the right thing to pop the clutch. I kept telling myself grandpa would do it but my gut was telling me t was the wrong thing. Gonna have to take it apart and look at it. I like the idea of the starter hole and putting a br on the flywheel. Never thought of that. But I am sure she is gonna come apart. Like I said I am no mechanic but I do enjoy tinkering with this old stuff. Thanks again for any help. And yes I did drain the oil pan and now it I soaking again in ATF fluid. This site is great and thanks to everyone for helping, I do appreciate it.

The M I purchased years ago that was locked up/ rusted up.. I just tore it down
And it was still tight/locked up.. I first thought I can free this thing up?
Ended up doing a overhaul, money well spent & But now runs like a Swiss Watch..

Fill in the blanks. Did it get water down the exhaust?? If it did or if the cylinders have any water/coolant in them all the stuff you can ever pour in will not help one bit since oils float on water.
If the cylinders where dry then what I do is fil lthe cylinders with ATF put the plugs back in then pour as much ATF down the exhaust as it will hold with out leaking out. Then after say a week or so pull the plugs out and set a 12 volt battery in and use short fast taps of the starter button to see if it will free up. I have done that to more then 30 tractors over the years and had good luck if the cylinders did not have water in them that is

To the best of my knowledge there is no water in it. ALWAYS had a cover over the exhaust and when I drained the oil (or all the stuff I have been dumping into the spark plug holes over the last few months) there was no evidence of water. Just a really nasty sludgy mess. I am going to do as you suggest again and dump down the exhaust ( did not do this before) and hope the 12 volt will do it in a few weeks. Thanks again everyone for the help. I am sure after I get this problem resolved I will be hitting you all up for more help on the next problem. Will keep you posted on what it take to brake the engine loose. Getting impatient I know that.

I hope mine will free up. If it takes a rebuild I will do it. If it does need an overhaul I hope I can do it, I have never done anything like that before. But I am willing to try. I can't wait to hear that engine again. Memories of younger years driving Around on that tractor when I could barely reach the clutch, but I loved it. Time in the field with grandpa...Can't wait to hear that POP POP again of that tractor. Thanks for the advise.

Best thing you could do is go to davenports and order a reprint of the service manual. These are about the simplest tractors there is to work on and you are going to have
to work on it. It is not going to free up unless you tear it down. To free it up you are going to have to remove the head and the oil pan. Look for the rust to see where
she's stuck. Then take a big block of wood and a big hammer and try to drive those pistons down(alternating).
