A pair of largest 12V batteries with the highest CCA possible that will fit into the battery box.

I had a 730D Electric Start. It had 2 12 volt Interstate Batteries. Thinking they were called Workhorse. Started the tractor with ease no matter what the temperature....

I converted a JD "R" to 24 Volt Starter back in 1975.
Used to CAT 1100 CCA.
Installed a Starter from a CAT G333 six cylinder naturally aspirated engine.
JD "R" stated no mater what the Temperature.
I would use two 12 Volt batteries.
Less connections less headache!
Bob...

2 12V would be cheaper than 4 6V and fewer connections
to lose current through.
Brand won't mean as much as cranking amps. I think
Group 31 will fit but you can get measurements.

Group 31's fit quite nicely. Look around, most Group 31's have 900cca, some have 1100. The NH batteries (gasp!) I got at cost have 1000cca. Use good quality cable (I prefer welders cable, as it is more flexible), preferably 2/0, but 1/0 will work. A fresh and/or cleaned starter also helps.
