Started checking into a front end leak on this tractor today. Have had this one less than a year and noticed early on that the PS did not work very well, had a front end oil leak, and a
possible radiator leak. All easily fixable I thought (while at the auction deciding how high to go). Since getting it home I filled the PS resivor and flushed and filled the radiator. Done
the usual new to me tractor things like changing oil, plugs, fixing leaky sediment bowl, and repairing a slipping clutch. Wow, guess I did not just stay in the house all winter as it
seemed.

Pulled off the front grill to take a closer look this morning. Front pedestal was covered with oily grime which was cleaned up before pics were taken. BiL suggested getting her cleaned
up and see what develops. Have been running this old girl every chance I got all winter and am satisfied with the way she runs but concerned about the amount of oil that drips out of
the front end. The oil I see looks like motor oil but so does PS oil after leaking through a 60 year old system.

Noticed this what looks like copper on the bottom of the radiator from both sides.

Does the power steering oil get foamy and come out the vent on top of the filler or is it coming out the bottom shaft?

Seems to be coming from the top somewhere. That is what I will be looking at while the grill is off. As much oil as I see leaking while the engine is running it should be relatively easy to see where it is coming from.

Over the winter I bought the seals needed to rebuild the PS pump as some have said oil could be coming from either side of the pump.

Dan ...did you check/replace the seal on the power steering valve where the splined steering shaft connects?? They're prone to leak.

I had a 620 that had bad pump seals, that created a vacuum leak and the oil foamed out the vent on top. The leak got so bad it pulled engine oil in through the fan shaft.

No, I Have not touched the PS on this tractor .......yet. Today I started it up to take a closer look, she's forcing oil out the fill cap vent, makes a steady drip under the front pretty quick. Have read where the pump seals being bad can cause this as ET said. Well I did buy the pump seals just in case that was the problem.

Dan....I quit torqueing @ 225 ft/lbs. I too have seen a lot of FW's ruined by over doing it. I don't think cast iron stretches infinitely.
