Cleaning Electrical

I am working on a 3010 gas and once we get some decent temperatures I plan to pressure wash it with hot water. I will use zip bags over the distributor, generator, regulator, etc.

My question is about cleaning the connection side of the key switch and light switch. As many of you know that area seems to collect a lot of oily dust. In the past I have often just pressure washed that area with the same hot water and cross my fingers the connections did not become degraded more than they already were. I was wondering if anyone else had a better method that would clean things up and maintain the integrity of the connections.

Thanks. Paul

I have pressure washed that area real good with no ill effects, let it dry for a couple of days before closing up.

There are a good number of sprays made for just that type of stuff. Some of the better brake cleaner sprays also state right on them that they are also an electrical cleaner. Water and electrical stuff NEVER mixes well

Different tractor model (JD630) but I gave mine a good pressure washing last fall. Left it sitting while I went in to supper, and my neighbor called and said I'd left the headlights on. Darn! Rushed out to turn them off, and discovered the switch WAS off. Twisted it around a few times and they went out, but they came on again by their self during the night, and neighbor called again. They've worked fine since then, but kinda eerie.

On my tractors, (work horses, not show horses) I usually just use a abundant amount of compressed air on that stuff.

Gets rid of the dust, but not all the oil.
