John Deere 4020 Kinze Re-Power

I have a 1967 John Deere 4020 that was repowered back in
the day by Kinze with a 6V-71 Detroit. Just curious if anyone
has any pictures of other Kinze 4020 repowers. I know the
4020 repowers weren't as common as the 5020 repowers. I
see pictures all the time of 5020 repowers with the 8V-71 but
never any 4020 repowers. If you have any pictures post them.
Thanks.

58 Deere I wish I had took some pictures of it when we got it home, but i didn't. We have started to take it apart and restore it. It ran but the ole detroit is tired and needs to be overhauled. Motor is no partially apart where we started to overhaul it. We got the tractor for a killer price. It was used hard on the farm since the day it was repowered. It needs some work but it's going to be a sweet tractor once we get it restored.

JD Bert where did you read this at? I have heard there were
only a handful of 4020s repowered. The 5020s were pretty
common. I always wondered how many 4020s were actually
repowered.

I would say that number is low. I have seen a couple around here years ago.
Know of a 4520 that went to Kinze before going home new. (318)
More 5020s than 4020s though since 5020s were doggy for their size.

I wish there was a way of finding the total number of 4020s. We have one, Jon has one in his personal collection and those are the only two I know of. I have been researching these kinze repowers for years and have yet to see another 4020 besides ours and Jon's. The 4520s, 4620s and 5020s were fairly common. You never here about the 4020s.

There used to be 2-3 Detroit powered 4020's that pulled at every pull within 100 miles of Moline back in the late 1960's and 1970's. Guys were from eastern Iowa.

I think one even had a 318 (8v-71) in it.

The Kinze repowers are still in demand as stated noisy but cool.M&W made some also I am not sure if 4020 or larger. If anyone besides Jon knows the gal at Hertage Iron would know.

As far as I know Kinze would only use v-6 in 4020.
The guys I knew with the 4520 said they would only put the v-8 in the power shift 4520 and told them not to shift under load.
Once saw a big tractor (5010/5020/6030???) in MS that had a gigantic Cat straight 6 motor (non-running). Looked home made. The hood was kinda chopped for the turbo and the oil pan was less than 12" from the ground. Tires were 30" wide.
Would have been an interesting project if one had the money just to throw away.

Where did you get yours from? I saw where a 4020 with Detroit was advertised for sale at a kiko new years day auction in ohio years ago and If im not mistaken sold rather cheap, I saw it advertised but did not go to the sale.

Our kinze 4020 is a powershift. And a friend of ours has a 4520 with a v6 and its a true kinze as well. His is syncro though not powershift. Here is a pic of my friends kinze v6 4520 syncro.

Yea by no means was it show quality when we got it. It was used and used hard on the farm since the repower by kinze back in the day. It originally came from Illinois and had two owners here in Kentucky before we got it. It ran but the ole 6v71 is tired. It's getting a complete overhaul. It was for sure worth $1,500. You don't see the 4020 Kinze's.
