John Deere B tires

I agree with Carlyle - the 11.2-38 is the modern version of the original size and for the tractor's power that is enough tire. That said, on the 1950 B that Dad and I have they look just a touch small. I've always thought that 12.4's would look a little better but that would be the largest I would go since I personally am not a big fan of the "huge tires on vintage tractors" look. Of course, individual opinions on this vary greatly.

From the factory, today's equivalents that were offered are 11.2-38 & 12.4-38. We have 15.5-38 on ours. Same height as 12.4-38. Half the ground compaction.

Dad had a '40 B with pressed steel wheels and the factory installed GY 9-38 tires. WAYYYY tooo small. I put a mis-matched set of 10-38's on it, the new size would be 11.2X38 and that was much better. Just the right size.

A 12.4X38, the old 11-38 would almost be too big IMO. May be O-K on an A.

A 15.5 is the same diameter as a 13.6X38, the old 12-38. We ran 13.6/12-38 duals on our tractors with 15.5's. A 12.4x38 is about two inches shorter than a 13.6X38 according to all my tire books, GY, BFG, Firestone, & Armstrong.

Amen...!!

If you can, get a set of JD "A" 11" rims and put the 13.6x38" on.. IF you plan to really "USE it"..

I got tied of leaving Ruts with my 12.4x38" and went with the 11" rims and 13.6x38 and it FINALLY looks "Right" ('52 LS "B")...!!

11.2x38" might be ok on an old UN-Styled Trailer- Queen...

Just imagine what size would be correct for the earlier JD "B" tractors with 8" rims...!

You reach a place where the original tires were ridiculously small..

Put ON what meets your INTENDED Use for the tractor...

My 51 B came with the equivalent of today's 11.2 x 38. 12.4 tires were just too wide for the original look.
