Multi-Fuel Valve 1946 H John Deere

On my tractor the sediment bowl was shot so I replaced it with a new one from the Farm Supply store but it is hard to turn it on-off way under the tank. The Multi-Fuel valve is old and was stuck in one position so someone put a small in-line gas valve in the line on the outside of the hood which is a good idea except all that plumbing has been seeping gasoline out after a while the tank will get empty.

I'm Thinking about making a extension on the new sediment bowel knob so it can be turned on-off from the right side of the hood but would like to get the plumbing replaced and back the way it should be. I always make a point shut the gas off on tractors.

Where can I get a new Multi-Fuel valve that works the way it should?? Would the John Deere store still stock them?? CLeddy

You can buy new three way fuel valves. I'm not sure if this site sells them too or not, but I know another that does. When I overhauled my father in laws H I dissembled the valve according to the repair the repair manual and that worked in my case.

Ebay, Steiners, ect. Anybody that sells John Deere reproduction parts will have that 3-way valve. This site has them also..

Take a look at the diagram below.

Note the three-way cock (Key 15) AB 2805 R for your 46H.

This same three-way valve is also used on the Model A with an auxiliary gasoline tank and on the Model B starting in 1940 with number 94494.

Take a look at the photo below of the three-way valve on "John B" our 43B.

I checked several of our "spare" three-way valves and none of them have the part number AB 2805 R on them.

Hope this helps.

Thanks for the replys. That sounds like a good solution to just spend the money and go with new. I like to keep using the original parts but when it comes to Gasoline maybe it just not worth it. One time a wire shorted out behind the dash and under the gas tank and well on its way to flames but wasn't leaking at that time so luck was on my side. Does anyone ever shut the sediment bowel off? It is in an awkward place.

Yes, we close the fuel valve to the sediment bowl on all of our tractors and let it run out of fuel.

Take another look at the diagram below.

First we close the valve (Key 36) to turn off the gas from the tank to the fuel filter (Key 42).

Next we turn the control rod (Key 8) to the "Off" position as shown in the photo below.

Hope this helps.

Thanks I think I can handle that. One other problem I need to deal with is some how the little gas tank wasn't used and someone put some saw dust in it. You know how for kids that seems like a great thing to try. Anyway with the old gas and that trash it needs to be cleaned real good which I have had good luck doing with carburator cleaner and pressure washing.

It does not appear the little gas tank has a filter on it.I want to have both tanks funcional when it is repaired. Hopefully it will clean up good enough.cleddy

I shut the sediment bowl off on mine as well, it's cheap insurance that you won't have a crankcase full of gas. My father in law bought an H a couple years ago, he can't get his hand in there to turn his off either. I made a T shaped tool with a fork on the end so all he's gotta do it reach in and give it a turn. If I go out there today I'll take a couple pics and post them.

Sorry it took so long to get these posted!

I built it so the direction of the handle is the same direction as the fuel valve (horizontal OFF, vertical ON)
