New to the JD board...I am normally on the Oliver and Case boards.
Neighbor is selling a 1951 A. SN - 686691. Very good tires...front and rear, though a little rust from the calcium chloride. It has roll a matic...12 volt...lights...rockshaft, hydraulics, pto. Good repaint and decals..steps, but no fenders. Tractor has my interest. What is a fair price?

From what little info you have about how it runs, how the trans is, whether the pto and hydraulics work, hard to say what a fair price is.

SN - 686691 is a '52.

Sounds like one of the nicer A's. If it runs and drives good I would think in the $2500-3000 range.

Here in NW Pa. a tractor like that is useable
but without P/S, Live hydraulic & live PTO
it isn't practical, those are the strikes
against it beside the rotted rim's. They
can & will do a lot of work. In my experience
at auctions a Nice Late model A won't bring
2200.00 with new tires...But If I had one for
sale I'd want a little more than that.

A john deeres anywere from 400- 2000 Im trying to sell a 1937 for 2000 just because it older and it runs don't know if it will sell or not, there were over 300,000 a jd made so not that wanted

There a g john deere complete on craigslist se Kansas $250 and all tires hold air complete also has complete 3 pt. to far for me to go get.

Actually, I consider having NO Power Steering on an "A" a POSITIVE.. NO problems with oil leaks, etc.

BUT, not all that popular with the usual city farmer Wanna-be, with spindly forearms..

LOL, gotta agree
if ya need PS on any narrow front tractor without a loader, either something is wrong with the tractor....or you

to the poster,
up here in the North, if it's green it's at least over $1k..even junk.
decent ones 1-3k, outstanding ones even more.
took me a long time to find a decent late B for under $2k,
and even longer to find a 40T for under $2k...barely
still searching for a cheap A

Your points are well taken. My point about
the lack of P/S & really not know what the
man plans to do with the machine? But backing
a 4 wheel hay wagon into a barn or mounting
a snow plow on the frt , there's NO BETTER
option than power steering.... Most of the
the Olivers I've driven with out Power steering
Steer easier than a John Deere A . I Have own
2 A's Now & one is a 51. Along with a B, M
530, 2 Model 60's 620,630,2 730 Diesels. All
of them get used on the farm.
