Fluid leak at the PTO Drive - Ford 3600

Have a 1981 Ford 3600

Picked it up last January and other than a few trip around the farm is has sat in the shed. No leaks what so ever.

This week I deployed it for its intended use.... Running a rotary mower. I mowed for 2 hrs last Monday and when I came to mow again last night, I noticed about 1/2 cup of fluid had leaked from the PTO Drive.

I'm guessing I have a bad seal in there. Anything else I need to be looking at?

Thanks

Two things: 1) make sure the bearing is not worn, and 2) make sure the surface where the seal rides is not
rough or have a big groove in it. #1 can be repaired with a new bearing, #2 can be repaired with a speedi-
sleeve.

Also make sure that the external PTO drive shaft that you are using is the proper length so that it extends and shortens without pulling or pushing the tractor's PTO shaft at any point in the range of the 3 point lift. If that happens it will pop the ring clip out of place inside and the PTO shaft will move forward and aft causing it to leak again in short order.

Thanks Fellas,

I'll take a look. The PTO Shaft may have been the culprit. I'll do some work and clean things up.
