Help with 671 model year

This is my first tractor. The
guy said it was a 1958 Ford 601
Select O Speed.
If I understand the serial
number right, it is a 1960???
671.

Cool! We were born the same year. That means this tractor is almost new.

Maybe some of the Select O Speed issues were worked out by then.

It couldn't be a 1958 since the S-O-S wasn't introduced until 1959. That is a 1960 serial number as Ultradog said.

As for the Select-O-Speed "issues", there were somethings fixed in the first 1 to 2 years, but all of the issues weren't worked out totally until the 4 cylinder 2000/4000 series ag chassis tractors came out in late 1962 for the 1963 model year with the Direct Drive Clutch version of the S-O-S, but many '01 series S-O-S transmissions have been retrofitted with the improved DDC transmission from the thousand series. If yours was retrofitted by a dealer then it would have been stamped with the original serial number of the tractor.
