I am looking at an 801 diesel and the owner said it needs injector pump work, was there a common problem with the pumps on the 801s ? or is it due for a rebuild? how deep do you think I could get in on this? Thanks for any advice

s it currently running? If not, the problems could run far deeper than the pump!
 
Any tractor that is 60 years would probably need pump work done if it hasn't been done a time or two before. Is it a 5 speed with live power? Sheet metal good, need tires ,oil pressure. Lots of things that would concern me more than a simple injector pump rebuild. Will it start and run at all? The bottom line is the price and how much you are willing to spend on it. I just totally rebuilt a 800 Gas for a customer that had three times what it was worth in it but it was his granddads and he wanted it restored.
 

I've overhauled one of those pumps for someone else. I charged him $100.00 and parts. Parts were in the neighborhood of $80.00 His only needed to be thoroughly cleaned and kitted. Kit included a new governor retainer ring and all seals.

I'm 14 miles south of Nebraska and 120 miles west of Missouri.
 
Servicing the injector pump is a really good idea. I would also strongly recommend having the injectors themselves serviced. Doing so will improve cold starts, fuel efficiency, and engine performance, and reduce wear on your starter motor.

Maybe Larry can do the injectors, but if not, use a local reputable diesel shop . I know of an excellent rebuild shop in Iowa that will do mail order work, as well.

Hey Larry, I have a engine I bought several years back that is a diesel, still has the rosamaster injector pump on it. engine is
missing crank and main caps. Ya want the injector pump?? If ya want it email me your addy and I will ship to you for for free!!!
I don't need it, just did note want to see engine go to China for scrap!!
