Flywheel step question

Had my flywheel turned, and told them it needed a 1.75" step. After getting it back it measured at 1.71". I had already bought the clutch kit, and it was for a 1.75" step.
A) I see clutch kits that come in 1.75", 1.71", and some never mention what step it's for.
B)Do I need to order the pressure plate made for a 1.71" step, or will the 1.75" clutch kit work with the 1.71" step.

Confused, and only want to put this 72 Ford 3000 together one time.

Doesn't seem like .040 would make that much difference, but just so confused, and want it to be perfect.

I've never heard of clutch kits that are tailored to varying degrees of steps for the flywheel - that's a
new one on me. Ford has a very specific dimension that they want that step to be machined to, unfortunately
I don't have that number in front of me, however 1.7 something does not sound right. I will check it in the
morning when I get to the shop.
 

I have a double disc clutch in one of my Fords. The clutch tends to drag so it is difficult to get in gear. I assume that the step is not quite enough and have been wondering if a little shimming would be in order.
 
I guess it is 1.7". This image came from a Ford service bulletin in 2002 related to machining flywheels in the field.

Can swear my I&T manual says the step needs to be 1.75" (have misplaced it, so can't re-look right now.) Could have been a typo, or they were misinformed, or just my eyes playing tricks on me.

Regardless, I had bought the kit for a 1.75" step. and figured that was why I was having trouble with the fingers recessing in too far towards the flywheel. Can get another pressure plate for the 1.71" step, if that will solve some of the problem, and put the washers between the flywheel, and cover, like others have had good luck doing.
