860 Ford Hydraulic Lift Cover adjustments

I made adjustments on hydraulics on position and constant draft on lift cover in past. Position lifts fine but it will not lift in constant draft.
I am going to adjust them again.
My question is this. I procedure in my FO-20 manual but I watched a video of someone making adjustments on a NAA
Ford. He used a half inch rod thru both lift arm pins and on top of draft spring and uses 3/16 draft and 1/4 inch on clearance on control valve. Will this work on my 860. It seams easier than the manual in setting position of control arms.
I did not have control arms an lift control lever set right the first time.
Thanks.

Do not use NAA procedures to adjust your 860.

The "alternative" procedures (no special tools needed) in the FO-20 manual, if followed precisely, will get you very close.

Be certain to replace the cam follower pin prior to performing the adjustments if there is ANY perceptible wear.

Before you go back into it remove the big draft spring on the rear of the cover down to the retainer plate that bolts on with 3 bolts to the lift cover. Remove it all till you can see the draft plunger rod going inside the lift cover. Cut a slot in a washer so it will fit the dowel pin of the retainer plate, the washer fits over the plunger and aligns with the dowel. Button it back up and test, the washer moves the draft forward its a external adjustment. I have done this quite a few times sometimes you have to use several washers are one thin one its quick and EZ to do...

Washer size 5/8 X 1/8" one should do it its rare I need two a thinner one...

The slot in the washer cut out the black part, for the O.D. use as small a O.D as you can find...

I don't waist my time adjusting them anymore by the book, in position mode I make sure the control valve moves all the way in near the top of the quadrant travel and all the way out at the bottom of quadrant travel... Once assembled I make draft adjustment as I stated...

Thanks all of you. I will pull my cover and adjust by book and keep other suggest in mind,
It is nice to have this support.

Follow up. I took cover off and did adjustments by I&T FO-20 manual. I adjusted draft spring. I could not get draft to adjust because I run out of adjustment on turnbuckle. I believe spring has been compressed and is not long enough. I had put new locating pin in last year. I did position adjustment and put back on tractor. Position works fine. I got the 1/2 inch lift arm height by putting 1/2 inch rod through lift arms and raising it to bottom of draft spring. This seemed to get position book called for.
Thanks.

BR860,
It's not so much that it has compressed as it has ware on it. I believe if you do as HOBO suggested below and add in the shims, that will compensate for the ware and give you the adjustment range that you need. It seams to be a cheap and easy way to "fix" your problem.

I just reread the the post. So I can do it without removing cover. I will try this when I work on it again.
