861 ford tractor

Ihave a 861 Ford gasser 5spd with double stage clutch. it seems to have excessive play in clutch. I have shorted rod between pivot and
clutch pedal as short as I can get it. theres is still at least 2 inches of travel in pedal before I feel resistance. When clutch is fully
released, I can look into access hole under bellhousing, and the release bearing is an inch or so away from pressure plate fingers. The clutch
works properly with trans and pto.Is it possible for the clutch pivot arm on side of the trans has slipped on the shaft. It has a hole in the
pivot arm where it mounts to shaft but has no bolt of roll pin in it. Any advice will be appreciated

Pedal pivot hole may be for grease zerk. there shouldn't be any pin to pivot shaft. Pivot shaft should be tight to the transmission housing.

yes the clutch pedal has a grease fitting in it. The pivot arm that Im speaking of is the one that come through the bellhousing and attatches
to the release bearing shaft

OK! I see what you're looking at. The shaft and bell-crank that comes out of the bell housing are one piece. Therefore no slippage is possible.

However the set screw and lock nut you are missing do stop that shaft from rotating too far in the released direction. That may account for the excessive clearance between the throw-out and clutch.

I had one that had the input shaft retainer worn so bad it was rounded off on the end, the throwout bearing wouldn't stay on that small ledge at the back of the holder that you press it on. Sometimes one ear will break off the holder. I dont know how much your pivot holes are worn but any slop you take out of the system gives you more pedal adjustment. When the holes on mine start to get oblong I drill and bush them. Check your pins also, I had one at the foot pedal that was almost worn in two.

The pivot arm on the clevis end is indeed worn oblong along with the clevis pin. I found out as you said this is causing excess slack between the two that makes for almost an inch of slack in pedal thanks for the input

I got all of the slack out of the clutch pedal by boring out and putting bushings in the linkage I now have only about an inch of travelin clutch pedal. Now I cant press the pedal down but about half way down and the compression bottoms out. It will go in gear only a slight grind. Now my question is do you think the finger height on the pressure plate needs to be adjusted.or is it just shot and need to be replaced? It is a dual stage clutch.

That clutch assembly is adjusted in a jig before installation to the fly wheel. It is not something one can just adjust.
