Update on the 851 hydraulics

Thank you all for the help with this one, especially Wayne and JMOR.

When I got it, the lift arms would only go up 18" with no weight.
After verifying and resolving issues with pressure, nothing changed.
So I took the top cover/lift chest off and went through it.
I really didn't find anything wrong except some stuck parts and
a bunch of crud. So I cleaned it, adjusted it and put it back on.
Today I was disking with it.

It's not perfect, I think I have an adjustment too tight, because
with the touch control lever in the lower position, the engine
above 600 RPMs and no weight on the arms they will creep all
the way up to full lift. They will go down even with it running
600+ if I stand on them. ~215lbs. They will stay down at idle.

With a load on it, both draft and position control work as expected.
I'm inclined to leave it as is unless there's a reason not to.

Testing leak-down in this picture. Ain't it purty? LOL

ome look better without a shirt, some don't. :)
Symptoms sound like either backpressure valve a bit too high, the check valve stuck open with trash, or the control valve not opening the lower/dump port fully.

I have a 541 doing the same thing and and I have never went back to look for the problem. have owned the tractor for 6 or 7 years and not used it only on tractor drives .Guess that's way I have not tried to repair it.
Hay, I hate to accuse a die hard Ford man of having a mutt, but if you are going to call that tractor a 851 you better put an 851 fuel tank on it. LOL In fact, the carburetor and exhaust system also look suspicious.", Of course you left the air cleaner off to really keep us guessing. LOL Am I always this mean a 12:30 in the morning?

You have good eyes Wayne! We've nick-named this tractor Muttley.
The trans and rear end are 851, the engine, gas tank, et al is
NAA, and the sheetmetal was off a 4000 prior SOS.
Parts from ~1953 to 1964. A real Johnny Cash!

Thanks JMOR, it was very dirty in there.
I think I'll run it a while and see what it does.
This photo is 14 hours later. Doesn't seem to have leaked down.

"I suspect it's sterile."

I hope it is Dean, they tend to multiply quickly around here! ;)

Here it is after 49+ hours. I think leak down is not an issue.
